how to spend your free time

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Free time. Sweet, sweet free time.

Around here, free time is a rare delicacy. J & I are both pretty busy bees, so getting a day off is quite the  luxury - especially getting the same day off! It would be nice if our schedules matched up a little more. Usually as one person is getting home from work or school, the other one is heading out the door (just enough time for a high-five!). So when it just so happens that we have the same day off, it always feels like a mini adventure. An entire day to ourselves?! What are we going to DO?! We could do ANYTHING! We could go ANYWHERE!

.......... and then, we usually end up at home in our pajamas, watching Law & Order reruns and probably ordering a pizza.

Can you relate?
I always have these grand, fabulous plans for how I want to spend my day off, but by the time the end of the week rolls around the only thing I want to do is relax. My weeks usually consist of lots of running around - going from class to class and from job to job, hopping on the bus or riding my bike - so as unadventurous as it might sound, sometimes spending the whole day cuddled up at home is the perfect way to spend my day off.

What do you like to do with free time? How do you spend your time off?

  1. I can totally relate. I always make grand lists of things I want to do - on free days, in the summer, in the days leading up to Christmas...
Well. Most of the time the tasks I set myself end up taking waay more time than I had intended and the ay is gone before I am halfway through my list. And as you said, sometimes just curling up with a book is just plain nice.
Since it's all free time amd thus not stuff you really haave to do, I don't think it's all that bad if you don't achieve anything. Sometimes you just need to relax.

  2. I've tried so hard in the past to make my free time work for me and plan things that I want to do or need to do, but I'm the happiest when my free time consists of kicking back and not really doing a whole lot. Like you, my days are usually pretty busy so my impulse is to make my free time free of anything, really! :)

  4. so, so , so relatable!

gee I wish you lived closer.

my husband & I are always discussing this thing that happens. because the whole time I'm at work, I'm thinking of what I want to do when I get home. and when I am home, I am worn out.

    what's the answer?

I guess that sounded really negative. our jobs are great. really. and relaxing is good too. it's just that I love love love being productive! you know? I wonder if it's an American thing?

  5. Oh! I can completely relate with you on this... my husband and I both, thankfully, have the same days off and whenever that one day comes around... we are exhausted. So we normally spend the afternoon walking around the city, come home to cook dinner and watch either a movie or our current favorite show on Netflix. :) Sometimes those days aren't too bad!

  6. I relate 500%, and I hear what becca said, too - I do the same thing! All day dream about how I'll settle into my apartment or cook this for dinner or whatever and then I get home, open a beer, plunk on the couch.... and then ... ?
