when it comes to haircare, I am certainly not a beauty queen.
aside from lather, rinse, and repeat I don't exactly have a hair routine. I tend to base my shampoo & conditioner decisions on what my friends are using, or (lets be real) whatever is on sale at Target. other than that, I don't know too much about what products I "should" be using or what kinds of things my hair "needs". plus, I tend to be a real sucker for commercials (talk about a bad combination). you know the ones I'm talking about. there'a always some girl twirling around the screen, winking and waving her extra shiny floor-length hair in your face. (why is she always winking?)

to these ridiculous commercials, I usually say, okay! and (never to my surprise) I always end up with the same, dried out hair and a giant bottle of shampoo that I don't want to use (the proper punishment for giving in to these ads, I admit).
anyways.
this week I've had a real break through! have you ever heard of Lush Cosmetics? I've known about them for a long time but for some reason, never thought to give their hair products a try (I was probably too distracted by all the twirling). a few days ago, I went in to pick up a hair moisturizer that a friend of mine uses. I wasn't even interested in what it supposedly did for my hair (all those commercials have really made me bitter), I just wanted it because it smells so good. and I mean really, really good. if you've ever wondered what heaven smells like, this is it.
my plan was to pop in, grab the moisturizer, and pop out. quick and easy! instead, I ended up staying for almost half an hour, chatting with one of the sales girls and trying out all sorts of samples. (this is very unlike me, by the way. I'm usually a very anti-social shopper) she talked to me about what "kind" of hair I have (thin, straight, boring) and what I was hoping to change about it (less oily roots! no more dry ends!) needless to say, I walked out the door with more than just the moisturizer in my bag.
I chose this shampoo, this conditioner, and this hair moisturizer.
blah blah blah. hair hair hair.
THE POINT IS.
this is the first time I've tried a haircare product that has actually made a difference. I'm telling you ladies (and gents), it's the bees knees! and, it smells incredible (did I mention that already?) Lush makes all of their products with natural ingredients (my shampoo is made with pineapple, kiwi, mango, sea salt, & seaweed), they don't test on animals (hooray!), and they even guarantee freshness (there's a sticker on each of my bottles that tells me the exact date the product was made). it's good stuff.
other fun products to try: bath bombs // fresh face masks // henna hair dyes.
and just when you thought it couldn't get any better, it does! they also have a really fun blog with articles like:

- DIY Popsicles

enjoy!
Oh man! You couldn't have written this at a better time. I am the WORST when it comes to hair care... I won't even tell you how long it's been since I've had a cut. :| It's so sad.
ReplyDeleteBUT! I'm trying. Will go in for a cut, style and color in the next week or so -- I hope! And I need products and I am freaking clueless when it comes to that stuff. So you are awesome, my friend! I'm excited about their Sea Spray and shampoos. :)
Latrina,
DeleteMy last haircut was... December? Yeah, December. How's that for an admission?
That Sea Spray stuff looks pretty neat. I was so tempted to buy their Beach Box because you get to try all sorts of fun products for 1/2 the normal price. Maybe I should go back...
You are just so awesome.
ReplyDeleteTruth is, i'm all about hair and i always try to find that better product for me and you just got my attention!
Thank you for posting this one and sharing your find, i'm so going to give it a try!
And man, i really love your blog already!
