snow, etc.

so like i was saying, snow.

during my last week in oregon we had ourselves a merry little snowstorm. i know what you're going to say and yes, i do in fact realize that "snowstorm" sounds dramatic and that where you're from, 5ft of snow is no big deal. but still. it never snows here so really any kind of snow counts as a blizzard and therefore i'm going to allow it.

j & i woke up especially early that day and could hardly believe our sleepy eyes. rumors had been flying around that it might actually snow over the weekend, but since it truly never snows in this town, everyone said ba humbug! and slammed their doors and that was that.

i imagine that if snow could talk, it would've laughed in our faces and said that the joke was on us. because it was!

the best part about this snow is that it was real snow - you know, the kind that actually sticks. a few years ago we were tricked into thinking that it was going to snow, and it kind of did, but by the time it reached the ground it was melted and gone and all of our winter wonderland dreams were crushed. (maybe that's why everyone was so bitter about it this year?) to redeem itself, this year the snow came in full force and even stayed long enough to let us make snowmen. we're friends again, me and snow.

the funny thing is, nobody in this town knows how to handle the snow (including me). since it really never snows here, nobody had tire chains or proper snow shoes or any idea how to drive. schools closed down, shops closed early, and instead of going to work and being responsible, everyone just ran around trying to catch snowflakes on their tongues. it was pretty magical. still, it seemed too good to be true and we figured that it would melt in an hour or two and then we could all go back to our normal, boring, snow-less lives. but once again, snow was right and we were wrong and it ended up snowing for six whole days! i still can't believe it.

in conclusion, snow is great. i highly recommend it for birthday parties, family gatherings, high school reunions, or for simply making your day a little more festive.

  1. It snows here in Michigan pretty frequently. Said snow also melts pretty quickly because Mother Nature likes our temperatures on any given Mon-Fri be 18, 20, 45, 60, and then right when you think it might stay warmer, 5 degrees. It's weird around here. Anyway, what I am trying to say is, I still get that giddy feeling with every snow fall, so I think I know exactly what feeling you are talking about. Oh, and nobody knows how to drive in it either ;)

  2. I really hope it snows this Christmas. :( I don't live in an non-snow area, but this winter has been freaking cold so far with just 1 day of snow. snow+Christmas=magic!

  3. Oh yeah, if it snows in North Carolina the world ends. But in the best of ways – those rare snow days are epic!

  4. This is awesome! I love photos in the snow almost more than the summer sun! I've been eagerly waiting and have only had one afternoon of snowfall in Tacoma thus far. If it doesn't come soon, you'll surely find me in the mountains in search of some :).
